Frosty Dog is made from a blend of two grape varieties, Vidal Blanc and Traminette. Our Vidal grapes are grown at Linden Vineyards in Linden, Virginia. Planted in 2004, the vines grow at 1,150 feet above sea level in greenstone silt clay soil. These vines are trained on a Lyre trellis system and yield about 5 tons of fruit per acre. Traminette grapes are grown for us at Virginia Mountain Vineyards in Botetourt County. The vines are hand tended, growing on the eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains at 1,650 feet above sea level. Planted in 2000, these grapes are grown on a vertical plane Smart-Dyson trellis system.
About This Wine
Gradual freezing created a concentrated juice which was used to create this opulent Ice Wine style dessert wine, crafted from Vidal Blanc and Traminette grapes. Pears, white flowers, and tropical aromas of guava and mango make up this wine’s complex aroma, while the palate features flavors of nectarine, and orange. A bright acidity enhances the long, smooth finish.
Aroma: Pear, white flowers, guava, mango. Palate: Sweet, nectarine, orange, bright acidity. Finish: Long, smooth. Ice wine style dessert wine.
